Seasonal: Winter

New Years Eve Party Style

So there’s less than 24 hours until New Years Eve and I have some last minute styling ideas for pretty much any celebration. Sure, it’s a bit last minute and it’s impossible to order these things (maybe technology can work on that), but that won’t stop the inspiration. I’ve styled 3 looks one with a dress (my favorite), one with pants, and one with a playsuit. I have even paired each look with one polish from Essie’s winter collection just to tie everything together.

This is my favorite look of the bunch, and I’m not even really a dress person. They just don’t look right with my hips. That said, I would trade in my joggers and jumper for this outfit for any outing tomorrow in a heartbeat. It contains many non-budget friendly items, but again, it’s my dream look so I went big with this one.

This is a more relaxed but sparkly look. I would also combine this with a nice peacoat to keep warm. I absolutely love the sparkly top from Topshop despite it being rather out of my comfort zone. Yes, I featured the Eddie Borgo ring & Marc Jacobs bracelet again with this look but simply because I just love them both so much and they seemed to fit well with the color of the Aldo heels.

What? A playsuit in winter? Well, yes. If I was attending say a houseparty or dining at a restaurant or, dare I say, going to a nightclub, I might choose a playsuit over a dress. It’s probably not the greatest idea for say…the Mill Avenue block party or hanging out in Times Square. To get more warmth I might suggest some black tights (or exchange this for a longer less flattering long playsuit)
and a white jacket/blazer. The shoes are the real stunner of this look and even then tights may draw more attention to them.

Mixtape: Christmas 2014

christmas2014

Ah, one week until Christmas Eve which just so happens to be one of my favorite days of the entire year. Of course not for the most obvious of reasons. Santa is a pretty cool guy though. It also means I’ll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen baking and cooking loads of meals, and attending holiday gatherings. Both of those occasions, at least according to me, require some great tunes which is why I’ve decided to share my yearly Christmas mix. My 2012 mix happens to be my most popular mix ever and I’m really proud of it, so this years fits the same theme and mood. There’s a mixture of classics and some newer versions in addition to some of my all time favorites.

Christmas music tends to be an acquired taste since it’s shoved down our throats beginning the day after Halloween no matter how good or bad the versions may be, so I did my best. I’ve also included one giant four hour long Spotify playlist of all sorts of holiday tunes. I didn’t mean for to be four hours, but sometimes a festive mood just begins to snowball.

Links and tracklisting to follow. Enjoy, and happy holidays!

Friday 5: Festive Night In

nightin

With all the stress of finals currently happening all over the place, it’s time to take some time to relax. Holiday time is the best time. Everyone knows that. There’s Christmas music everywhere and holiday movies on every channel. My personal favorite is Hallmark Channel. I mean where else can you watch a made-for-tv movie where Steve Guttenberg is Santa Claus? How many made for tv movies are there about workaholic women who lose their holiday spirit which can only be found through a visit from a ghost OR a neighborhood Christmas light competition? Tis’ the season…

That said, I’m taking Friday night off. Well, technically it’s almost over. I’ve had my lovely dinner and now I’m ready to cozy up with some Love Actually. Now it feels like Christmas…

1. Onesie, OnePiece 2. Throw, IKEA 3. Peppermint bark hot chocolate, Williams Sonoma, Square mug, Target 4. Love Actually DVD, Amazon 5. Gingerbread socks, Topman

Coveting: Holiday

coveting

Long time no see, blog. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and that means it’s almost time to start decking the halls with boughs of holly. Ugh, that really sounded as dorky in type as it did in my head. I’m sorry. Holiday decorating is both exciting and frustrating, but nevertheless I love it. So I’ve been browsing the internet taking a look at all sorts of new holiday decorations and festive things in anticipation for decorating day 2013. Yeah, that’s a thing I do. Trust me, it’s a pretty cool event I made up for myself. And how cool is it there’s a cute Mad Men inspired Christmas album? Onto the shopping links!
