Year In Review: 2014 Survey

For the past 5 years or so I’ve been taking time to fill out this year end survey. 2014 really is no exception. The survey contains what I feel are the best and worst in everything from (As seen above) music to movies to even television and my personal life. Everything is based entirely on my opinion so feel free to disagree (but not in a cruel manner of course) and leave some comments with your best/worst of the year or take the survey for yourself and share it with me!

If you could change one thing about 2014, what would it be? I would be more calm, open, and understanding of those I surround myself with on a daily basis. I tend to not act as one should when under lots of stress.
What is the most memorable moment of 2014: Where We Are Tour
Who did you spend most of 2014 with? My best friend, Rachael and five loveable idiots
Where did you spend most of 2014? Phoenix, school, the car.
Have you changed alot since 2013? No. I think I continued the same growth pattern I started last year only just found more of who I am, where I want to go, and who should continue to be a part of that.
So, how is Nicole spending her last night of 2014?: Comfy clothes, bubbly drinks, and One Direction.

Friday 5: Festive Night In

With all the stress of finals currently happening all over the place, it’s time to take some time to relax. Holiday time is the best time. Everyone knows that. There’s Christmas music everywhere and holiday movies on every channel. My personal favorite is Hallmark Channel. I mean where else can you watch a made-for-tv movie where Steve Guttenberg is Santa Claus? How many made for tv movies are there about workaholic women who lose their holiday spirit which can only be found through a visit from a ghost OR a neighborhood Christmas light competition? Tis’ the season…

That said, I’m taking Friday night off. Well, technically it’s almost over. I’ve had my lovely dinner and now I’m ready to cozy up with some Love Actually. Now it feels like Christmas…

1. Onesie, OnePiece 2. Throw, IKEA 3. Peppermint bark hot chocolate, Williams Sonoma, Square mug, Target 4. Love Actually DVD, Amazon 5. Gingerbread socks, Topman

5 Things I Love This Week…

I’m starting to realize 5 is slowly becoming the new theme of this blog. I just really like that number lately. I’m feeling a bit burnt out lately. I’m not entirely sure if that’s just the hectic nature of my life kicking in or just not feeling at all like things matter in the larger scheme of things. Whoa…getting deep there, yea? Okay maybe that’s just some pent up aggression caused by burning myself on my coffee pot this morning added to my multivitamins current crusade to ruin my life. I mean who said being healthy would be like a great thing? I might as well just join Goop’s pre-holiday no fun food cleanse.*

1. Took the night off last night to participate in my fall ritual and watch You’ve Got Mail. I still don’t believe anyone’s dial up AOL was THAT fast, but then again they didn’t have a family filled with people trying to make and receive phone calls.
2. My nail color of choice this week: Carry On, Essie, $8.50
3. Favorite Things Holiday Cards, Rifle Paper Co., $16 for 8 cards
4. Don’t Drake and Drive sweatshirt, Supermuse, $47.99
5. Steal My Girl Acoustic – One Direction

*I’m just assuming the cleanse is no fun. It’s probably really good for you.

novemberIt’s a huge cliche to say how I can’t possibly believe it’s already November. November is one of my favorite months…if not my favorite month. You know, if people chose such a thing to begin with. There’s a few things I’m looking forward to this month and one of them truly is a given.

  • Four: I’m counting down the hours until the release of One Direction’s fourth album Four. Getting a new track this morning made me even more excited. Ready to Run is pretty killer. I can’t wait to hear more.
  • The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 – I’m not even sure how I’m going to handle this one. I’m just not ready for hijacked PEETA.
  • Thanksgiving – My favorite holiday and my favorite Bon Appetit issue of the year. I have the menu perfected after 5 or 6 years of me preparing the meal myself but I think this year I might change it up and make these mashed potatoes.
  • Holiday shopping – Topshop’s holiday lookbook/collection starring Cara Delevigne is out and I really want this bandeau jumpsuit and these pointed ankle boots. I might even make Essie’s Tuck In My Tux my official holiday nail color this year.
  • 5 Seconds of Summer are currently touring and Rock Out with Your Socks Out is swinging by my town this month. They absolutely smashed it on tour with 1D this summer so I’m ecstatic for my inner teen angst filled self to rock out.

Weekly Inspiration

Trying something new today and sharing some things that will hopefully make this week just a little bit easier. Some weekly inspiration if you will…

Wear: I am loving this outfit Definitely plan to copy it in Arizona weather friendly terms. / Eat: Pumpkin Sage Alfredo Pappardelle with Brown Butter from A Cozy Kitchen is most definitely going on my dinner list this week.

Listen to: I have no shame saying I listen to the radio frequently (at least lately) and I have come to enjoy Love Me Harder by Ariana Grande and The Weeknd quite a bit. / Smile: Norm is ready for Halloween

Buy: Madewell x Sezane / Watch: A to Z on NBC. Starring Ben Feldman (Mad Men) and Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother), A to Z is the comprehensive retelling of Andrew and Zelda’s relationship. It’s a bit too much like 500 Days of Summer, but that’s partially what I like about it. There’s something special about this show and I hope other people see it too.

Friday Favorites: Haul

So, I guess there’s this cool thing to do on the internet where you share things you’ve recently purchased in some sort of haul post. Granted most of these are done by fairly popular Youtubers who have people who care what they buy watching their videos. I, for one, believe I have a highly obnoxious speaking voice and am not entertaining enough to make videos, so I decided to blog them instead.

Let’s start with the clothes, shall we? I love H&M basic sweaters. I think I own one in every color they have ever made. My most recent addition to my jumper collection is this grey knit sweater with zipper. Not only is it reasonably priced but ridiculously comfy. It’s taking plenty of self control not to go buy more. I’m trying to break this habit I have of buying multiple colors of things I already own. Next are ripped jeans. I was skeptical of this at first because why would I pay money for clothes with holes. I’m a sensible adult, right? That makes no sense. But on a whim I tried on a pair and just really kind of liked it enough to get some of my own. Ah, boots. Every fall/winter I go on a quest to find boots and always end up realizing maybe I’m “just not a boot person.” I really liked these though and, well, being on sale doesn’t hurt either. I just hope the weather begins to lighten up a bit so they become wearable.

I rarely take a brush to my hair. I can get my curls to last for a few days with just dry shampoo, but someone said this Tangle Teezer was an absolute hair must so I figured, maybe Lizzie McGuire is right, “Why not?” I’ve used it a bit and I must say I do think it is a hair must. This NYX Matte Finish spray is my new beauty must have. I’m obsessed with it. I love how it makes my make up look. I’m also loving their tea tree oil absorbing sheets. I’m trying this whole new put effort into make up thing. That’s what grown ups do, yea?

Speaking of adulthood, let’s talk about sheets. Since they don’t make One Direction sheets for adults (really missing the market here, guys), I’m forced to have grown up sheets like some person who follows societal norms. I’m entirely kidding, I love simple, basic sheets and I was adorkably excited to get new ones. These particular sheets from my favorite “we have everything shop,” Target, feel almost like hotel sheets. Yea, some people may hate that feeling, but it reminds me of traveling, which is something I love. Also, they are fairly good quality for the price, which is something I can always get behind.

Shop the post: H&M Knit jumper / H&M ripped jeans / Target combat boots / Tangle Teezer / NYX Matte Finishing Spray / Target Room Essentials microfiber sheet set

Hello, October…

It has been one of those weeks where it feels as though I can’t get anything accomplished. Fortunately to outsiders it looks like I have my shit together even when I don’t. I guess I just have that particular skill. But it’s a new month which means kind of a fresh start! These are things I’m looking forward to this month.

  • Where We Are concert film: Next weekend for two days only One Direction are taking over cinemas worldwide for a live concert film event. I can’t wait to relive WWA Tour despite it feeling like it wasn’t all that too long ago…Watch the trailer, buy tickets and find out more here.
  • Cozy Nights In: I love chilly nights in. Comfy clothes, bad television, and tea? Even cuddles? Sign me up. Right now I’m loving this knit jumper and these Topshop joggers for nights in.
  • New She & Him?: While browsing to see which albums are set for release this month I noticed She & Him’s album Classics listed. I hope this is true. I can’t wait to here that album. I mean just look at the teaser
  • Holiday Suja Juices: I mentioned in a previous post Suja’s holiday juices. Finally the flavors have been revealed and the Wassail to You sounds so so delicious. And a portion of the purchase goes to charity. I went and checked my local Whole Foods and they didn’t have them yet, but hopefully soon. (Links to buy: Call Me Pumpkin and Wassail to You)
  • AMC Fearfest: One of my favorite times of the year is AMC’s Feafest which features the Halloween marathon.
  • Halloween: Halloween is on a Friday this year which means time to live it up. Maybe this should be my costume?
  • Bob’s Burgers: Ah, one of the best shows on television returns this Sunday, 5 October with a musical extravaganza.

Noteworthy 005

It’s Friday and normally I would be sharing some of my favorite things, but today I decided to share a whole bunch of things. A whole bunch of things worth knowing about right now.

    • Snack On: It’s hard to snack healthy being so busy with school and life, but my latest snack obsession is Simple Truth roasted almonds with sea salt. Picked them up randomly in the grocery store the other day and I can’t stop rushing to them when I’m hungry. Maybe it’s time to try some roasted almond and sea salt dark chocolate bark?
    • Listen to: It’s the most wonderful time of the year….yes, One Direction is about to release a new album (November 17th for those who don’t know), but before then it’s new single time. Hear a snippet of their new single, Steal My Girl, over on Soundcloud now. Not only is that available but so is a snippet of the Big Payno Afterhrs Pool Party remix which comes on the single available, in full, on Monday! I can’t wait to hear the full version.
    • Wear: Time for my new favorite seasonal Essie color Dressed to Kilt
    • Jealous of: Kirsten Dunst’s Soho loft is beautiful. The kitchen is so well designed. I love the brick everyhere. I wish I could live in a place this nice. See more over at Because I’m Addicted
    • Choose between: Ah, engagement parties. Time to act like an adult and celebrate love. Too bad it’s hard to decide what dress to wear. I like both of these and obviously this H&M lace dressis far more budget friendly than the Alice + Olivia Amor dress.
    • Excited for:Browsing my instagram feed the other day I noticed this photo from Suja Juice. Holiday flavors? Yes please! I’m a bit apprehensive about trying them but maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised?

Noteworthy 004

This edition of Noteworthy contains things I’m mostly looking forward to this month.

  • I know it’s still 109 out, but I honestly can’t wait to for sweater and jacket weather. Right now I just really want (and my bezzie stylist) suggested I need a leather jacket. Right now I’m deciding between one from H&M and one from Mango, and leaning towards the H&M one.
  • Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks! I must admit it’s been out a week and I’ve already had two. I know. It is complete and utter blasphemy, but I just couldn’t resist. Pumpkin season is my favorite season!
  • Pretty excited for my friend’s engagement party this month! It’s so exciting when my friends get married. Well, except it really makes you ponder somethings about yourself you’ve never considered before. I’m so happy for both of them!
  • Last night, Lifetime aired the Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story and boy was it rivting. You know about as riveting as a trip to the dentist. Who knew the behind the scenes action of the classic 90s sitcom were so intense? To be quite honest, if the BTS action was really that intense, this movie showed none of it. Just utterly sloppy cookie cutter versions of events that didn’t really make sense in the long run. Word to the wise: Stick with the E! True Hollywood Story episode rather than watch this. Don’t believe me? Watch the trailer here
  • I love road trips and I am so, so excited to get out of town for a bit. It’s coming up so soon. Time to start prepping! LA here we come!!!!
  • Where We Are Tour…what can I possibly say about WWA? My show dates are quickly approaching. It feels like just yesterday we were buying tickets to it and now it’s finally here. What will I ever do when it is over?!

Back to Class: In My Bag

Anyone who knows me can tell you my handbag is a complete disaster. A million Starbucks straw wrappers, unnesessary recipts, movie ticket stubs, and a pleathora of spare coins. When a new semester starts and I switch from bag to bag I try to maintain a certain standard of cleanliness which ultimately a week later fails miserably. So this week for the final installment of Back to Class we are gonna take a look at the things I carry with my in my bag on the daily.

There’s loads of expected things: my keys, my computer, my phone charger, and of course, a snack. I literally have no break this semester. But then there’s the other things that make me super special. Just kidding. They are kind of essential to school life.
